Amazing Spaces

Recently I’ve been totally consumed with a new project… developing the Amazing Spaces TV project with George Clarke and Channel 4.

It’s a funny thing that when starting a new project, irrespective of the amount of research, forethought and years in the conception, you still have little idea whether it will work or if people will love it as much as you do.

Working with George Clarke and Channel 4 on Amazing Spaces was an even bigger step into the unknown than the 3 books I had previously published. Luckily I can draw on a good few years experience as a stylist for film, TV and photography, but this project was different. This involved a whole concept, and expression of small-scale design and inspiration. This involved people finding sideways solutions and affordable ways to make their own lives better with the addition of beach huts, shipping containers, and caravans in their lives.

All well trodden territory for me, as I had already explored many such projects in my cool shed. I soon realised that many of those gorgeous projects were about to have their time in the spotlight… Big time!

Making Amazing Spaces alongside the lovely team has been an incredibly enjoyable experience. In fact, I’ve loved every minute… although I have to admit there have been far too many lunches eaten on the move as we headed to yet another distant location.

Amazing Spaces now has its own wonderful little family. From the talented designer, contributor and decent soul William Hardie, to our team of amazing space owners. Each sharing a vision they followed through, an achievement they made and a journey they’ve taken we can all be inspired by.

The fact that Amazing Spaces has been so well received, and has now spawned series 2, feels fantastic. I’m so looking forward to the next steps and will definitely be entertaining and inspiring you further right here, on Facebook and Twitter.

In the meantime we are on the lookout for some more funky projects for series 2. Ideally they must be small design projects, not just with an interesting purpose or design, but also something that means a great deal to you.

Design without context and meaning can be great, but really amazing ideas always come from a good human place… a place where it means something to you and your life.

So, if you have plans for your own small scale Amazing Space then please let us know. If not then you can still get involved by joining the Amazing Spaces gang on Facebook and Twitter. We are all there sharing the joy, sharing ideas and keeping the conversation going.
