TV & travels
This is the final few weeks shooting of the C4 design show that I am involved with and am working on.
My schedule for the last 8 days has packed in filming from the Lake District to the Cotswolds, to Hay on Wye which has in truth been on my ‘ must visit’ list for a very long time, venturing into deepest Wales, up north again to the top of a hill in the Lake District, and finally to the rolling sheep filled hills of the Scottish borders.
Although I am now somewhat of an expert and all too familiar with the inevitable high mileage photography/ filming /styling road trip, the constituant parts of which, although inherently mundane …overnight stops, coffee grabbed from service stations, tustles re who to follow… the sat nav or the map seems to provide the necessary ingredient to induce a strange kind of entertaining delirium. A natural playlist always emerges, the vehicle starting the trip clean & organised becomes shambolic but in an particularly idiosyncratic and useful way. There is enough talk, laughter and secrets shared to last a good while. It’s an adventure without doubt.
This time we definitely had a styling dream team on the road, both in terms of fun, talent and the ability to graft.
The show itself includes pieces on just about all the things that have caught and held my attention over the last few years… Vintage caravans, shipping containers, sheds, all sorts of quirky small projects that hopefully inspire both in their conception, the travails of building/ creating anything, and of course a lovely peek into the finished project and to whether dreams are achieved or not.
These are projects that could by nature be completely everyday and unexceptional, but with the support and creative input from George Clarke our presenter, the visions and dreams of the owners, and a bit of magic dust from you know who .. They are just amazing. Look forward to seeing what happens when people dream, and that small spaces really can fuel the big ideas.
