Perspective

A good part of what I love about working on a ‘My Cool’ book is the opportunity to reflect, become inspired, and experience something totally new . Finding inspiration sometimes happens right on your doorstep and can be an unexpected pleasure.

I saw this fabulous lowered split-screen VW at Battlebridge in Essex earlier this summer. It could be seen as a case for restoration and much in need of a reinvigorating re-spray.

Or, you might see the beautiful patina of the paintwork, collected window stickers and Flintstones style jumble of camping chairs, bikes and bags on the roof. All these worn-by-life objects are a story in themselves.

For me, beauty is found in the haphazard, the enjoyment of the journey, the subtle passions of the project… perhaps it’s as simple as not being the same as everyone else.

Even the hardcore VW owners at the event loved pressing their noses against the glass.. thinking about their next project while talking to fellow owners.

Similar joy will be spread throughout the British Isles over the coming summer months. Volkszone has the full list of shows. The many VW enthusiasts will already have several of these events scheduled in, but even the vaguely interested will appreciate the treasured campervans on show.

… and keep a watch out…you’ll be able to see several of the gorgeous VW’s from the book too!
