A Walk Through the Twentieth Century
I took the opportunity this week to go along to Tate Britain. The gallery has had a re-jig, including a new section ‘A Walk Through the Twentieth Century’.
You think with the Tate that you already know their modern art collection.
This new display is so fresh and vibrant visiting it is a bit when you go abroad to a major capital, you go visit their modern art gallery without fail…this is like a holiday in your own city and seeing things afresh.
There is so much to love there, and if you are like me,dream about having on your own walls at home. In particular I loved the typographical brilliance, and of Bob and Roberta Smiths ‘Donald Judd came to dinner’ painted in 1993.
yes that’s right 1997… … 14 years ago…think about it.
The huge modern trend for typographical art that is just about everywhere now…..it’s great that is immediate, and humorous, it makes you feel good and mixing art and type is such a powerful and quick way of communicating a message or statement.
I must get his book too ‘I should be in charge’ from Black Dog publishing.
Book link on Amazon, although at your bookshop too.
