Stella Blunt Broadway Market

One of my favourite Saturday morning haunts in Broadway Market in Hackney. It’s a popular place and a very pleasant way to part with your money.

Vintage finds are always a pleasure and Stella Blunt’s shop at the Victoria Park end of the market there always turns up something worth having.

I bought these greetings cards on a recent trip. Each card is the reverse side of a vintage playing card. This set of Art Deco illustrated dogs, each one is different. Like a lot of clever things It is a simple idea well executed.

The cards are fixed to heavy cream card with old fashioned black corners you would have used in times gone by to fix your photographs into an album, and each is unique.

I particularly liked these dogs… my Grandmother used to have a stylised 1930’s ceramic Fox Terrier on her mantelpiece. Such things have a habit of finding a little place in the back of your mind, and every so often, that exact image pops up, often in a vintage store, and the purchase is almost obligatory.

You can buy them from Stella’s shop at 75 Broadway Market, London, E8 4PH
