Chelsea Flower Show Artisan Section

Spring Is On Its Way

How do I know it’s on its way? Because I’ve been doing a bit of spring cleaning and I came across these pictures of a book binders shed I had on file which made streams of memories come flooding back.

My cool shed

I took them at last years Chelsea Flower Show in their Artisan Retreats section.

Of course this is one of my favourite sections as it’s stuffed full of sheds and small builds, and is incredibly inspiring.

Each was beautifully created, and demonstrated perfectly its own perfect little world.

These pictures are of The Conran Shops book binders shed designed by Vicki Conran.

Vicki’s retreat was full of interesting materials, papers, textiles and beautiful hand tools, as well as a selection of books in varying stages of binding and casing.

Genuinely ‘my cool shed’ snuck it’s way in there, without any influence from me, and I felt very honoured to find it there.

It’s lovely to revisit old reference pictures, which I find incredibly inspiring and motivating for my future projects.

I often find that what inspired me in the first place is still there but looking back I realise that my thoughts and ideas have developed yet further with time.

It always takes a long lead time to get something into Chelsea, but I’m already having thoughts of recommending the Amazing Spaces team do our own small space at the big show.

Now there’s an idea!

What do you reckon George?
