Reflecting on 2014, and ideas for the New Year

Apart from being a whole lot of fun there is definitely something about this time of year that allows some reflection and a bit of space to emerge for fresh thinking.

We’ve been undertaking a major office tidy up and de-clutter and are in the process of updating the Pinterest board, having a bit of an overdue prop clear out and are thinking about the plans for next years books, creating mood boards, getting inspiration from life and travels, and weaving together this years experiences, sleeping on it and thinking how we might approach things in 2015.

‘More Amazing Spaces’ and ‘my cool kitchen’ are both on the book store shelves at the moment. Each book is a bit of a journey and I always learn something new to add into the next book of the series, which I am currently working on. Seeing them on the shelves never fails to give me a buzz and I hope very much they give you the same level of enjoyment and inspiration.

Series 4 of ‘Amazing Spaces’ airs tonight with a collection of exciting projects and their creative owners. It is also the big reveal of George’s and William’s fantastic wilderness cabin in the woods. The Christmas Special then airs the following week bringing the whole series to a close. Thank you so much for watching the show this year. It has been picking up some great viewing figures and receiving these have now become my personal joyous rituals on Friday mornings.

One of my favourites projects of the series so far has been meeting lovely Sophie Heron from ‘Carvers Camper’, who revealed to me that some of her inspiration was from ‘my cool shed’.

Apart from her being genuinely super cool, an emergency room nurse and talented wood carver, the campervan was a thing of beauty and surprise. You can find her on facebook.

In the same way that the builds on ‘Amazing Spaces’ inspire the books I love the idea that the books might be inspiring more builds.

If this series has inspired you to create your own amazing space, get in touch, I’d love to hear from you.

Other items you may find of interest…

Sophie Heron has a new website selling her hand carved spoons and wood products – all of which are absolutely lovely. Her story illustrates the best of ‘my cool’ … affordable, individual style, and having confidence in finding your own expression however small or humble. See more of Sophies work at Made By Herons.

If you feel inspired by William Hardies classic work wear look, you can buy yourself some from Darcy Clothing.

Barry Jackson from the Hive Haus in series 2 is someone I think I’ll always stay in touch with, and it was the stunning kitchen in his Hive Haus that I featured in more depth in ‘my cool kitchen’.
